This ceramic sculpture represents a time when things were completely out of control in my life and I forced myself to make time to disconnect and make something tangible away from computer screens. I moved into a home that had a kiln and my children and I would make random ceramic objects regularly. I don’t have a background in pottery but feel a strong connection to the medium from my previous work in the ceramic tile industry, and am fascinated by the bold variety of colors of the glazes. Working with ceramics is a wild contrast to working with code, and I appreciate the juxtaposition of mediums very much. There’s a certain humility in making ceramics that helps ground me from the otherwise roller coaster ride of the last several years.
