Description
This photograph is based on the ancient proverb “All the flowers of tomorrow are in the seeds of today.” A personal interpretation: By preserving the native vegetation of today, we are protecting the biodiversity of tomorrow. A plant is native to a given ecoregion when it naturally grows there, not having been introduced by human beings. Birds, insects and other animals depend on this vegetation to exist, as they co-evolved with native plants and use them for food and shelter. If native vegetation is destroyed, biodiversity suffers. About the photograph: This image shows Tasi (Araujia sericifera) seeds. Tasi is a vining plant in the family Apocynaceae that is native to South America. In Argentina, where the photograph was taken, this plant can be found in the provinces of Buenos Aires, Corrientes, Entre Ríos, Misiones and Santa Fe. It is one of the hosts of the Southern Monarch butterfly (Danaus erippus). Technical details: Photograph made in camera. Only basic adjustments made in Adobe Camera Raw. No elements added or removed from the original photo. Camera: Nikon D610 Lens: Nikon 50mm f/1.4 Exposure: 0.8 sec; f/16; ISO 400 Lighting: Continuous light; 4 speedlight flash units.
